In my case it better be jewelry or something nice. I was told 30+ years ago that I had better never buy her an appliance for bday or Christmas, let alone something car related!

My wife’s car is parked outside, while my cars are inside the garage. Xmas shopping at Tiffany’s on 5th Ave in NYC has kept them there (for now)

While I’ve met few women who collect cars, I’m not sure how many of those are/were someone’s wife.

My wife has other hobbies and interests, but has expressed some desire in a certain type of vintage vehicle and knows that if she/we were to get one, it would come with ownership responsibilities (for her) that extend far beyond acquisition costs and efforts.

Even if your wife is a car person, or participates in the hobby in an active way, getting her car-related stuff for birthday/holidays/anniversary is a BIG mistake.

C'mon, you guys know that. If you need a gift-buying tip, remember that jewelry always fits.

The first year were dating (30odd years ago) I bought her new bumpers of her Karmann Ghia at a local junk yard. She loved it...what-a-gal!

My Wife of 38 years gets as excited about car related purchases as I do. She would probably be mad if I "wasted" money on jewelry. She gets just as excited about events such as Hershey as I do.

I asked her what she wanted for Christmas this year and she replied she wanted to donate money to hurricane Helene victims in North Carolina. Yeah, she's a keeper!

After 42 years of marriage my wife has about everything she could want. On Thanksgiving each year we decide which charities to donate the RMD from my IRA. This year the winners were Animal Rescue, Sexual Assault and Unlimited Potential which is a local 501c3 that supports teens who age out of foster care and all government assistance on their 18th birthday. We are very thankful of our health and ability to help others. We hope all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving.

I gave my significant other for her birthday this year, a very nice vintage Mercedes supercharged flip top convertible bright red. This year for Christmas , a 3 week river cruise in Spain and Portugal in the coming summer. She prefers to travel with a college classmate. I prepay everything including 1st class airfare and 1st class accommodations on the cruise. Now for the reasons, I can buy any car or shop equipment or car stuff anytime with no questions.

She loves cars fast and loud and old and slow, loves to tour in our early brass era cars, our classic cars, or our vintage Ferrari's. She never ever questions adding cars for our collection. Her concern is how soon can we take it out for a ride. I listen to her conversations with her college classmate. Then I pick a trip to a location they have discussed.

p/s I always add a little sweetener to her Christmas stocking. Last year it was a performance driving school in Nevada. This year her own programed keys to the Ferrari's.

just sayin'

Respectfully, not always the case.

Many wives, and especially mine,

are far more practical -

love the hobby-

have more jewelry than they really care to,

and appreciate both the travel, and the people we meet while touring.

Jewelry mostly stay in the safe while we take the cars cross-county - Together.

My wife complained about the rising cost of oil changes for her car. I bought her a case of oil, a couple of filters, and a drain pan.

I guess you'll be in the dog house until at least her next Birthday..

Nope...   Got that planned -- a big can of paste wax and a bag of rags, gift wrapped, of course.

My wife always wanted a old Jaguar 120-140.    Well, one day I was getting parts at the local junk yard and there was wrecked Jaguar MK II on the top shelf.    I had the yard forklift get it down and we cut off the front 18".   I restored it for my wife.   I still have her and  the Jaguar, but the red Jaguar is in the barn wired with a motion sensor to turn it's lights on when drive in.

A carpet cleaner and matching outfit may not be the best idea because she already has a Glock 19.

So maybe the Colt or a cheese cake.

Vacuum cleaner, not so much but a new snake series wheel gun is always a welcome addition.  Mrs. Mack waited a year for a special order King Cobra 22. & has had some success in competitive shooting... 😉👍

Actually not a vacuum cleaner.  It is a floor polisher/ buffer/ scrubber.

Bought my wife a 1988/ 560SL last year. Was an early Christmas (August) gift. At Christmas time it was a Cartier watch. Turns out I drive the 560 most of the time while she relaxes/navigates and enjoys the tours, etc. She wears the watch. 😉

Best of both worlds.

Lots of wisdom on this thread.

if she’s really into collectible cars, find a museum that would have examples of the type of cars she really likes.  Tell her you want to stay at a nice hotel in the area (her choice) and take her out to the best restaurant in town for a great dinner and just get away with her and visit the museum that she chose.

all the women I know like fun hotels and restaurants.
