Yup, '23 only had cylinder hold-down studs. 

 

Franklin cylinder head bolts (studs) didn't come into use until the detachable heads were used starting in 1930. Plus, there were no torque ratings back then. 

 

Best you can do is use modern toque ratings for the same size bolts.  And use the mild steel rating because heat treating fasteners was not as consistent as today. Add to that, who knows what wrench-gorilla over stressed the bolts/studs in the past and may have weakened them.

sorry, dont know how i did it but, this was supposed to be under a studebaker heading    roger

S'ok. Just don't put water in the engine and it will be accepted here. 😁
