Lahti35 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 When did DB go to the two piece oil pan? My 20 has a one piece, the early 23 parts chassis has a one piece, but what did they do in 25? Will a '25 pan fit an early 23 block? I see the Myers oil pan gasket set covers from 18-26. I'm trying help out a gentleman who has a cracked block in his 25 engine and would like to install my early 23 block in his car but we're unsure if the '25 stuff will bolt to the early 23 block. Stuff like the oil pan, carb, head, water pump assembly, etc...
Mark Gregush Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Not sure what you mean by 1 or 2 piece pan? The 1920 would have had the steel pan with the flange to mount the bell housing attached. The early pans were one piece aluminum, but those ended around 1917. Everything else should fit, the engines are pretty much the same, it will need the head with fan mount on it.

I thought I read somewhere that there was a two piece pan (oil pan/flywheel dust cover) but maybe that's a later engine. Fast four maybe? It appears the 23 engine I have does have the fan mount in the head so no issue there. Thanks!
Minibago Posted November 13 Posted November 13 I think the separate flywheel bell housing from the sump came in late 1926 with the advent of the 6 volt change over, I think the separate starter ring gear took up more room. I think.
Mark Gregush Posted November 13 Posted November 13 (edited) Best I can tell is that the same oil pan would have been used. This one is off of an engine between 1920 and 1923 but should be the same at least up to introduction of the single disk clutch. I looked up the part number shown in the illustration in the parts book, but between the number on the illustration and what is shown number wise in the list, the number don't jive. Lahti35 Posted November 13 Author Posted November 13 Thanks for the info guys! The gentleman sent me picture of his '25 pan and they look identical to the '23 pan. Want to be sure it will work for him and avoid a lot of time/expense for a fitment issue. 1
