I need to check the bearings and repack my rear wheels which I have never removed.  I have the wheel

puller but even using a very large wrench and pipe cannot move the wheel.  Am I missing something?

I don't want to damage anything.  Looks like the outer ring of the brake hub comes off with the wheel?

Does anyone know any tricks to free the wheel?

The "outer ring" is probably the brakes. They should not come off with the drum. If the drum has been on the axle for a long time, it will take considerable force to remove it. Zeke

Now for the definition of "Considerable force" Should I just keep tying to turn

the bolt on the removable cup?  Maybe a little help with a hammer but don't see

where I can hit or pry.   Thinking a wooden block on the inside of the wheel with

a heavy mallet?

Without photos, it's difficult for me to understand what is going on with your project. Take the hubcap off, remove the axle nut then use a drum pulling tool. As an aside, the bearings have a grease fitting for lubrication on the axle housing located close to the rear wheel. Zeke

Thanks Zeke

Yes my drum pulling tool looks like yours and I was able to remove the wheel. What I found was a plate that must screw into the wheel housing where the rear wheel bearings are located and they must be lubricated by the rear end oil.  Since I am not having any problems and the wheel bearing seal is not leaking I think I should leave well enough alone.  What did the trick was hitting the wheel pulling tool with a heavy mallet.
