jonahboo Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Good morning, I am the proud owner of this (new to me) '40 Pontiac Torpedo 8 Sport Coupe So, a pre war car is new to me....I'd like to get some things sorted out.... 1. what type of motor oil? I use GTX Classic in my others (55 Buick, 65 Chev, 68 Riv)....safe to use that in this as well? 2. what does the (left of wheel control do?) - since photo, i tapped threads and installed a knob 3. running board mat rubber material source? How about a parts source? the Buicks, are not too hard to find items ......places like OLD BUICK PARTS, CARS, and Kanter $$ what about this?? Trim tag tells me this is a C bodied (CADDY rear?) Coupe Sound about right?....I had no idea GM used different bodies, with (i guess different front ends and details thank you all for any help! 2
Norman Biggs Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Some people recommend an oil with high Zinc because there's no lead in gas anymore. Does it have the original straight 8? Has it been rebuilt?
jonahboo Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 YES, original 8 unknown if rebuilt, has 43,000 on odo i got some SAE 30 seams like what others suggest, due to the fact of no oil filter, and not wanting particles suspended in oil.....not an expert....just gleeming info i have read
49 Streamliner Posted November 7 Posted November 7 For parts, try California Pontiac Restoration-- https://www.pontiacparts.net/ I had good luck with them a couple years ago while having work done on my '49 Streamliner. They were working on upgrading their website at the time, so I did all my ordering over the phone. They were very helpful and delivery was quick. Bill 1
