I had a '73 F-150 that had one just like it rattling around under the seat.

I guess that was pre- Star Wars...?

According to this discussion board, the hole in the base is indicative of a 1948-'52 Ford F-1 truck- it was put there for a hand-wheel bolt to secure it in the corner of the cab.
