I got this old Purolator CA-1 oil filter between 45 and 50 years ago.  I had never seen one like it and got it from an old machine shop that had gone out of business.  On and off for the past 50 years I have tried to identify it or get any info I could to no avail.  Even contacted Purolator and they told me they had no information on it.   I checked car shows and have never seen another.  It is unused and labeled "The PurOlator" Sweetland License, Type CA-1, Oil Purifying System, PAT'D Dec. 28 1915.  Anyone have any info on these or know what they fit?  When I ran across it I knew it was something I shouldn't just throw out.20240329_133947.jpg.fb593475c521726853caca855365fa5a.jpg

Looks like a Springfield Rolls Royce Phantom 1 oil filter.

If memory serves,I think some of the 25-28 era big Nashes had a filter pretty close to that, and also possibly 26-27 Cadillacs. On some,it could have been a later add-on.

Thanks for responding.  I have been trying for many, many years to get any info on this filter.  It's nice to see some people that know what it is.  Mine isn't shiny like in the Rolls Royce picture and the crimped and welded seam on mine may be wider but it looks right.  Maybe mines an earlier manufacture?  It would be nice to know when these were made.  Mine still has the little copper clad asbestos(?) ring gaskets/washers.  I appreciate all the help and information.

Similar to the one used on early 1925/6 Chrysler. Chrysler parts book shows 2 different part numbers for the filters used, not sure if the CA1 was used by Chrysler, the one shown below is a Type A2
