Streamline Smitten Posted September 26 Posted September 26 On the front doors of my '41 Series 62 4-door it looks like the door jam catch is missing the wedges. In one of the photos you can see I have stuck a screwdriver to show there is nothing in that cavity. The cavity above it is also empty. Both front doors are this way. Also is a photo of one of the rear doors. These appear to have a wedge of some sort in the upper and lower cavities. Are my front doors missing some sort of wedge? If so, just what is supposed to go in there? Is it rubber or steel? -Jim
Tom Boehm Posted September 27 Posted September 27 (edited) Yes, your front doors jambs are missing the rubber bumpers like the back door jambs have. The bumpers are hard rubber with a spring behind them so they move when the wedge on the door pushes in between them. Take one off and look at the back. They might be permanently enclosed at the factory and the bumpers cannot be replaced. Then you have to look for the whole part in good used condition. If you can insert new rubber look for those bumpers at maybe Bob's Automobilia Buick parts or The Filling Station Chevy parts. On my 1940 Lasalle the rubber bumpers cannot be replaced. They are spot welded in permanently at the factory. I soaked mine in Evapo Rust rust remover to get the spring loosened up so the rubber bumpers would move again. Bob's used to sell those chrome wedges reproduction. (shown on the lower part of the second picture.) They may still have them. Edited September 27 by Tom Boehm (see edit history)
