Dave Wells Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I thought it was 25 years...but somebody look up the rule and make it official.
TAKerry Posted September 22 Posted September 22 OOPS, I was thinking of something else, Yes AACA is 25 years and older. Stock configuration. 1

wayne sheldon Posted September 24 Posted September 24 On the forum here, I don't think there is any hard and fast rule. The general rule for participation in the AACA is 25 years old or older. However local groups can and do make exceptions. Here on the forum, even the newest EVs are often discussed. There is a tremendous amount of activity here for cars of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. And frankly, that is how it should be. However, I won't spend much time reading most of that. For me? (For whatever it is worth?) I am mostly interested in automobiles built before about 1930. But that is me, just so you know from whence my opinions expressed. Personally, I don't like things like restomods being discussed. But I do not complain about them. I have a great deal of respect for a number of people that own them, and generally just ignore the discussions about restomods. This forum is a good place. And I want it to stay that way. Modern cars and all. 3 2

60FlatTop Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Some cars are relatively new. Over time nothing about the car changes but at a point they become acceptable.
Steve Moskowitz Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Our club recognizes cars 25 years or older. That is what we allow in our judging system and on tours. However, if you read the rules of the forum we do not have an age restriction. We do not allow hot rods, street rods, customs etc. but minor modification such as those allowed in our DPC classes are accepted. We also have a race car class that of course are custom built. So, our moderators have to make judgement calls at times about posts. We are at the core "car guys and gals" but hopefully despite our bias towards unmodified and older cars we respect everyone and their right to like what they like. We also host a "ton" of other car clubs here (for free) and they all have different rules so we, as moderators, have to take that into account. Playing Solomon at times is not fun. We recognize there is a level of intolerance towards certain segments of the hobby but if we as a club are to survive and if the hobby is to survive than we must be open to new ideas and be tolerant of those who like more modern cars. My oldest is 1903 and my newest is 1975. While I am not into newer cars I personally have seen a lot of cases where someone enters the hobby with a "newish" car and falls in love with a pre-war car and "kaboom" they now have 2 or more cars in the garage. If our beloved hobby and the ideas of AACA in preserving history are going to continue for decades we must be welcoming to getting others involved in our cars. This may be rambling, tired, but I just feel strongly that some in our hobby do not understand the damage caused by not accepting that someone might love their Pacer, minivan or other more modern car. They are not the enemy, they may be the ones to "inherit" our cars. Let's hope we don't chase them away. 7 4

My "local" club is suffering at present with the consequences of not embracing the sentiments above. After 80 years of existence they are struggling to fill positions on the committee and sadly they will probably not make it to 85 years. The "perpetrators" of course lament the downhill slide of "their" club but rigidly adhere to their ideas which exclude the newer members with fresh ideas which further oils the downwards slope. Steve
