Guest DeSoto Frank
Here's another weird question....Does anyone know of any web-sites out there that are devoted to old lawnmowers?Power-mowers, that is, specifically Lawn-Boy...I have two "vintage" Lawn-Boys, one from 1957 (actually dated: their "Millioneth Mower Year" ), the other from the early '60's- lime green with decals stating: "OMC POWER" and "Coloramic Styling" (sic). There seem to be websites for everything else under the sun....If anyone knows of a site, please share it with me.(Yes,these are "everyday" machines ! )

1937hd45
I know the push type real mowers are popular out on the West Coast. I picked up an all aluminum push type this past summer, must be a special racing model.
John N. Packard
Frank, I have a REO reel type riding mower from the 50s. Used it for a good many years; but it has been stored in the shed now for quite a while. Never thought to look for a website.jnp
Guest imported_PackardV8
I have 1965 Springfield riding mower. several Lawnboys circa 1980 or earlier. How is the year of a lawnboy determined???????
Guest DeSoto Frank
Packard V-8,Don't know if there's an easy way to determine year on Lawn-Boys... In my case, it was real easy with the older one: it has a round badge riveted to the deck, between the rear wheels which says: 18" in the center, and around the edge it reads: "Millionth Mower Year - 1957".The "newer" one is from the early '60s (perhaps very late '50s), guessing by the styling("Coloramic Styling") and its Lime green paint , but I know it was made before 1963, because that was the year that OMC moved Lawn-Boy from the old Rotary Power Mower (acquired by OMC in 1956 -previous L-B mowers were gas-engined reel mowers!) factory in Lamar, Missouri to Wisconsin (?), and both my machines were made in Lamar.Lawn-Boy has a website (Lawn-Boy.com) which has history pages about OMC and about Oly Evinrude (Yes, Virginia, there WAS a Mr. Evinrude!)Lawn-Boy used to refer to their engines by alpha model designations... my 18" is a C-20, the 19" is a C-17.My Grandad bought his first L-B in the early '60s (my uncle still has it), and it was similar to my 19" - all metal, and yellow. He got another one, a Model "D" in the early '70s - this was the model with the fiberglass cowl over the engine; it was white and cut 21".Around 1980, he got another new one- looked identical to the 1970, but was green. The only trouble I can recall with the fiberglass-cowl models was that the centers tended to break out of their plastic wheels. That's what I know about 'em....I was just kind of wondering if there were other "wackos" out there like myself that might've started a club or website for old lawn mowers....maybe they're all too busy cuttin' grass...
Guest imported_Dwight V.
If there isn't a web site for them now, there probably will be soon.I searched and found a site for my Simplicity lawn tractor, www.simpletractors.com. It has been very helpful in pinpointing the year and so on, and I was able to download and print the entire owner's manual and parts book for it from links on that site. I thought I was the only guy with old lawn equipment (1973 Simplicity tractor, 1963 Moto-Mower snow thrower, 1980s Lawn Boy). I like old stuff - generally better built, easy to work on and cheap to buy used.
