PaulP117
Does anyone have recommendations on rebuilding the 4T60E transmission from the 91 reatta? I would think the transfer shell is broken or something but it’s acting strange for sure. At first while reversing it started to sound like the clacking of a train on tracks and it wouldn’t do it consistently but was still noticeable. Today though I had no reverse, I could feel a slight engagement when putting it into reverse but no movement at all when giving it throttle. I made sure the fluid was full and then ended up figuring out how to force it into reverse. I have to roll forwards in drive a little bit then carefully go from drive to neutral then reverse and not let go of the gas after reverse catches otherwise once it slows down too much reverse stops responding. A rebuild kit isn’t too pricy so I hope that will be the solution
PaulP117
If I knew better, I’d have taken care of this while I had the engine out of the car.
Barney Eaton
If you have a 1991 service manual you can check several of the functions with the onboard diagnostics.
EmTee
Drop the pan and check the filter and bottom of the pan for metal bits. I had an '01 Century with a shudder that coincided with brass shavings in the pan (suspected planetary failure). I sold the car cheap...
