Steve_Mack_CT
The way you find cars you want is to not be looking I guess. What do you guys think of this one? @John Bloom?? https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/listing/1928-packard-526-los-alamos-nm-2809882?fbclid=IwY2xjawEZDCxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHUDNntwIYz65-H2jKR0oxPSrdhXh7OM0m6QOuJ77J9fYJs5QJHBr_5_lrg_aem_raM_Bu14qoSuhLI0kve-JA

Xander Wildeisen
Beautiful cars, I do like how they raised the back half up in 1930. The 28-29 from a side view looks to low in the body height. Probably had to do with the folding top.

Although the 526 is not big for Packard standards of that era (compared to the 443) they are still actually fairly big cars and have a presence about them. I am a lover of roadsters, but I think you need to get the purchase price down a bit to even think about taking it on. I looked at a 526 roadster about a year and a half ago that was selling for 58K, and you would have to get this blue car for free to turn it into that other one. I think it’d be a great car if someone could buy it right and methodically sort through it system by system. The engine bay needs 40 hours of cleaning, detailing and painting, and needs to go back to its vacuum tank. There are several concerning things offered by the seller’s write up. Like any old car you take your chances. But this is a handsome car. Steve….. how many Packards does it take to be a “collection”?

rydersclassics
John, One! If you own any orphaned brand one makes you a collector because you need parts cars then you can struggle with the choice between saving or parting out? The 526 Roadster would look good parked with your 526 Phaeton and the 633 Roadster would bridge the gap in your collection between the 28 and 30 model years. I love the style of all 28/29 Roadsters but a bit tight inside for me, the Ray Dietrich designed bodies (as well as many other customs) have a bit more room inside so I lean toward those. 1

Lots of choices and price points and this 526 would be just about the lowest entry point for a prewar Packard roadster (CCCA eligible if that has any interest to you) that thread is a rabbit hole….maybe time for me to do some more research and refresh it. if anyone here goes to see that 526 Roadster, share with us what you thought of it.
Steve_Mack_CT
@John Bloom apologies? I was too lazy to bring your post over which both cars above really seem to speak to. Not sure I would touch either cosmetically besides careful cleaning..

Captain Harley
The '28 Roadster would be a "Dream Come True" for me! I've got the dough just no place to put it....😬 Capt. Harley😉 "Skirts are for Women not Car Fenders"

That will get that roadster right where any car guy would want it. Smack dab in the middle of the living room. Might be best to run that one by the wife.🤔 Edited August 6 by Xander Wildeisen (see edit history) 3
John Bloom
and now down to 26K with the word Negotiable clearly stated under the price....... If you're interested, get on this, I suspect it will be moved quickly based on the pictures showing a car that could be enjoyed with cleaning and detailing and it runs (there is that mention of engine noise.....so there lies the risk). With the quick price drop, the seller seems pretty serious about moving it. https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/listing/1928-packard-526-los-alamos-nm-2809882

auburnseeker
As much as I love that Packard, I'm pretty sure it won't get done what I need to do with it, and if it did, it would be Done!. As it is I'm looking for a dozer as I don't think excavator is enough machine to do the dozing I need to do. I do have a lead on a barn find Dozer though. Parked 20 years since her husband passed away. Never thought that would be the kind of barn find I would get excited about. 1
Marty Roth
If I didn't have my 1930 Packard Touring, I would strongly consider this Roadster strictly As-Is for a "Driver" quality fun tour car, preferably closer to the very low $20K range or less, depending on the seller's need to roll it. but need to determine what the noisy engine really needs,in addition to lots of detailing.
auburnseeker
Well I bought it! The Dozer not the Packard. Pics to follow. 3

auburnseeker
Here is the barn shot. Just got back from installing a new battery, topping off the fuel and checking things over to make sure it's ready to move. Made arrangements to move it tomorrow morning as well. Just got done ordering brand new upholstery for her as well. She's a 1974 so technically an antique.

Thankfully they parked it somewhat inside. Especially in the Northeast where everything rusts to death just from the humidity, much less exposure. One owner, 1700 hours. Even still has the side panels on the hood, which are usually missing. I think the paint is beyond a cut and buff though. auburnseeker
Got the old girl delivered yesterday morning and had the not so pleasurable experience of cleaning out the mouse nests. No current residents, so that's good. Big rubber gloves and a respirator were in order as well as the big shop vac. Here is a shot after is was delivered before I "cleaned it up" Looks like it needs a few hoses as well. So I need to get those ordered as well. Alteast I was able to drive her in the barn after wards and able to actually find room to put her out of the way.
