engine testing 1936 River Rouge

Recommended Posts

Interesting photo. Can't tell if the engines (some of them?) are connected to the dynamos or not. But most of what I can see, the engines aren't anywhere near ready to run. They may at this point be set up for the dynamo to turn the engine for a break-in period before the spark plugs, carburetors, and distributors are installed?

I noticed that too. The engines in the center are not connected and seem to be awaiting connection. None have spark plugs and no provisions for attaching coolant or containing exhaust - even in the room. Also from the sheer number and compressed arrangement I'd say that these were not "run" actively but some sort of passive test to break-in and perhaps score cylinders with further testing later. This is different than the Locomobile factory engine testing photo I posted in that section a few weeks ago.
