Guest greg72monte
Being that this will be my first showing of my vehicle at an AACA National Meet, I ask a little advice. It is likely that I will driving to the meet in the rain onSaturday. Will I be penalized for road dirt accumulated on theway? I will do my best to clean it up upon arrival, but there may be dirt on the undercarriage. Is there a water source forcar washing?I generally do not drive in the rain, but attending this meet is apersonal goal. I have a "First Senior" award from VCCAand am trying for a "First Junior" at Carlisle.Any advice would be appreciated.Thank you,Gregory Roser
Ron Green
I asked the same question to the judges a few years back at the Grand National as it rained big time. His reply was that they could tell the difference from the rain and dirt from that day then if your car has been that way for some time. After having got caught twice in the rain and cleaned the undercarriage a few days later I believe you can tell the fresh dirt from the ground in dirt. The judges are smart and should not deduct from what is apparently slop from comming to the meet, but get as much off as possible. Carlisle usually has a few water hoses a little past gate 3. Good luck!
Guest greg72monte
Thanks Ron.I will bring my bucket & a few gallons of water anyway.I will give it my best shot. I have been a judge for the VCCAand I tend to agree. There is a difference between today'sdirt and long time accumulation.Greg
Guest greg72monte
Is the show field grass or pavement?
Ron Green
Carlisle for the most part is grass with paved aisles in between all the rows. They are now calling for rain on Saturday. I live 9 miles away and in fact will be playing hookie from work tomorrow and hope to make it up for a few hours. I had a car registered for the show Saturday but fell a week short of finishing it, even though I work my *ss off since November on it. Expect traffic delays as the fairgrounds is located almost in the center of Carlisle and there is only one secret way in left and without knowing the area it would be impossible to explain. Restorer32
Usually in situations of bad weather, as is likely tomorrow, an announcement is made at the judges breakfast to the effect that no deductions should be made for mud etc. obviously accumulated on the way to the show. Don't try to slip that dried mustard on the carpet from last 4th of July's hotdog past the judges though. Gee, I sure hope I'm not assigned to judge chassis tomorrow...... Guest greg72monte
Thanks for all your responses. This will be the first time I "intentionally"take the car out in the rain. At least I will notbe alone. Yes I have judged undercarriages before for the VCCA,as well as other areas, but never in the rain.Greg
