Sawyer Baker Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Hello, my family owns a 1940 Pontiac deluxe 26, 4-door coupe. It was my great-grandparents, grandparents, and now my mom's. I hope to buy it one day from my mother (or be gifted it). I'm 18 and want to start wrenching on it and restoring it with my 20-year-old cousin, we hope to take my great grandma for a ride in it before she passes away but that's a long-shot goal. The engine's timing chain went out originally and then the rings of the pistons rusted and froze them up. I'm hoping to pull the engine out but am unsure how to do so, where or what bolts need to be taken out, and if the 3-speed transmission has to come out with it too. Any tips, tricks, or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. 3
JFranklin Posted June 8 Posted June 8 (edited) The first thing you should do is buy a shop manual that covers your year car, Motors comes to mind as a general guide. If you can find a specific manual more the better. You will defiantly need to remove the hood and radiator, maybe the grillwork also. Edited June 8 by JFranklin (see edit history) 3
