Buickneem
Has anyone had their rear main seal and oil pan gasket replaced on a 65 Riviera 401 Nailhead? Curious to know how many hours it would take a good mechanic to do the job?
telriv
Using a modern neoprene seal about 3-5 hours. This is with experience & having done the same previously. So knowing what to do & the procedure to follow is VERY important. Tom T.
60FlatTop
It is rare for me to just do one thing and put stuff back together. I suffer from the "As long as I am in their" syndrome I can come up with a list that would have the car apart for a year. I have dropped the pan from my '64 Riviera with the engine in the car. Things to be aware of: Take the distributor cap off. Room is tight. The four pan bolts above the crossmember are not bad if you use a 1/4" drive socket set. Remove the fan shroud completely. I think I had to drop the steering linkage. 2
