It's interesting that the '30's era Southern Cross cars built in Australia were equipped with "General Jumbo" wheels, made as accessories in the USA by the Cleveland Welding Company, and used "balloon" tires. At that time, many manufacturers were still equipping their vehicles with taller, skinnier wheels and tires.

I am a proud Aussie when it comes to things we used to be able to make but damn that is one ugly car!

A lot of early attempts at an "Australian" car used imported components from either Britain or the US (or both). Chic, Summit and Thompson are 3 other Australian efforts that went nowhere. Then later after WW2 we had the laughable "Lightburn Zeta" - why I scream!! I don't know what we were thinking.
