Reading between the lines, it appears that this is a Duesenberg conjured from nothingness. Are they optimistic on the pricing or is that the going rate even for a "bitsa?"

Not that I wouldn't happily own it and drive it into the ground.

The auction description was interesting.  Yes, it's a bitsa, but it's a bitsa made mostly of authentic Duesenberg parts, which distinguishes it.

The 6 speed is very interesting. That trans has 2 overdrive gears. I bet that is a joy on the freeway.

How many auction cars/ show cars could  make  it 20 miles down  the road. Not many I would guess.

Whenever someone says they bought their car at auction (people seem especially proud of buying at Barrett-Jackson for some reason) I expect the car to be 20% crappier than they say it is.

The American Underslung is one of the best of the marque that still exists.  It is a known car with history from new.  The Mercer and Lozier also cars with excellent provenance and have been owned by one person for decades.   There are a number of outstanding brass cars for sale at Pebble this year.

Years ago my cousin, a dedicated street-rodder who wanted an origina AACA-type car (whom I hadn't seen in 50 years), went to a Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson and bought a red 1957 Chevy Bel-air convertible to be able to drive a VMCCA Western National Tour We met him there with our 1941 Cadillac. It was visually beautiful, and he trailered it from west Texas to the tour an hour west of San Antonio. I spent a fair part of the tour trying to help keep it running. Good thing he only paid $120K plus fees, commissions, transport, taxes, etc. Next time, he bought a Caddy ElDorado Convertible, I think from Mecom with about the same success. I worked on that one after he trailered it to Florida for an AACA tour.

I agree with 50% as a base line !

I didn’t get a chance to see it yet…….a very respected early car guy said it makes everything he has ever touched seem like a toy. And he has fantastic stuff……….
