Ted Levitt
Purchased two Rolls Phantom II Chassis. Both in a junk yard for over 15 years then purchased by a fellow and stored in dry a house deck in the dirt for over 50 years. No body parts just the chassis’s, one engine that was stripped down. Both chassis’s missing parts. So I am building one chassis out of the two. Then will build a body from scratch on it.
prewarnut
Neat! Future York roadster I assume? Are you thinking of attempting a LHD conversion? Keep posting progress pics.

Interesting question. Everything on the AJ S, AMS series cars under the hood is flipped. I’m wondering if the head can be simply turned around. But I believe the bell housing is completely different. prewarnut
I expect it would require major re-machining of mounting parts for the pedals. I know the Springfield cars had a ?U.S. sourced transmission (3 speed versus the UK 4 speed). I can't seem to find on-line documentation of conversion but figure someone must have done it.... The starter and generator are on the also flipped on the LHD cars from the Right to the Left to make room for the steering box. The shifter on the transmission is in the center on the LHD cars and on the Right in the RHD cars. I think it would require getting a AJS/AMS series Transmission to make it work. I'm thinking probably not feasible.
prewarnut
You have a point. I didn't appreciate how far back they extend, plus carb, blocking a potential steering box on the left. So the few Springfield PII transition cars must have had an entirely different cast lower front crank cover right? I very much doubt it. I've seen one such conversion on a Ghost chassis and it was a cobbled up mess made from truck parts and, to my mind, absolutely unsafe to take out of the garage let alone down the street. A PII would be infinitely more difficult. The transmissions were all built by RR...the 3-speeds were used simply because that was what American customers expected. Henry Royce actually favored 3-speed transmissions and used one on the early 20HP cars. It was a center shift as well. Customer reaction was so adverse to this "cheap American" innovation that they were forced to go to back to a 4-speed with RH shifting.
