Not a big fan of the 58's; I like my 57 more. But that's a personal taste and this car looks very nice.  Take it from me, you could not put a 58 together for the $22,500 asking price on this car. It has power steering, dual circuit master cylinder with a disc brake upgrade too!  I wonder if the interior is original....  The seat back for the front passenger has the "pontiac" inscription sewn in.  On replacement interiors that use the original upholstery those inscriptions are never replicated.  It's probably got the 389ci V8 with the Jetaway transmission. My 57 has a 347ci with a Jetaway trans.  Pretty cool gauge setup in it too.I think it is a good price too.  Listen to me; sounds like I am talking myself into buying it... I'm not! GLWTS

This looks like a pretty nice car in a great color. It's the base model Chieftain and with a production of 26,003 (second highest figure for any model 1958 Pontiac) I don't think it can really be called rare. IMO the interior is correct but the hubcaps (61 Dodge type) and outside mirrors are not. Still a sharp car and it will be interesting to see if it sells close to the asking price. For the record, all 1958 Pontiacs used the one year only 370 cu. in. V8 engine. There were no 389s until 1959. Pontiac automatic transmissions in 1958 were called Super Hydramatics. The term Jetaway was an Oldsmobile-only thing. Not to get into an argument but having owned both 1957 & 1958 Pontiacs in the past, a 1958 would be my preference.

I like the less expensive 1958 Pontiacs, such as this one,

because the side trim is simpler.  In 1958, General Motors

got the idea that they should decorate the SIDES of their cars,

as well as the front and back.  Higher models of Pontiac have

gaudier side trim.

If that trend of over-decoration continued, in a few years

we might have seen rockets and badges and complex trim

on a car's roof!

Very clean well presented Pontiac. I am also one that prefers the GM '57s, this was the high water mark for all cars IMO. That said, seems like a well sorted out example that will not disappoint the new buyer. GLWTS

In 57 a king pin type front suspension was used and in 58 GM did away with the king pins.  So I would guess the 58's drive that much nicer than the 57's. So after looking at my transmission manual I found got the transmission wrong wrong for 57.  It was actually called Strato-Flight Hydro-matic. You're right the Jet away transmissions were an Olds name.  I tend to think that interior is original  and looks real nice for age!
