Ken Felton
I have a pair of these and think they look really cool. Any information on these would be appreciated. Also any opinions on how to restore or service. Thanks - Ken Edited June 24, 2023 by Ken Felton (see edit history)

Oregon Desert model 45
This has wrong configuration to fit Ford A. "A" shocks mount to the outside of the frame and the square shaft points outboard. This one looks like the square shaft passes through the frame or some heavy bracket on the frame. Servicing this shock will require a spanner tool machined to fit those 3 notches and a breaker bar capable of handling a lot of torque. I serviced some "A" shocks years ago, and when breaking the big nut loose, had my entire weight hanging/ bouncing on a cheater pipe 7' long, and when it finally broke loose it made a big bang. There is a thread over on the Fordbarn that describes servicing rotary hydraulic shocks.
Ken Felton
Hello Oregon Desert Model 45, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your experience. These shocks in a pile of Model A and Shoebox Ford parts, so I assumed thought it might be a aftermarket shock, but your observations about how it mounts makes sense to me. I wonder what it goes to. They have a nice industrial design. Ken
