Rear Mount 72 spare

Is there a trick to getting the rear mount spare on? I don't seem to have enough clearance and does the split rim face the rear or the front of the car?

Photo of the situation? The split ring goes on the outside facing the rear. Be certain the valve stem goes in first.

Here is the setup. I see where there is a tab on the rim and a notch in the rim holder at the top.

Still seems too tight.

Is it possible your rim is not true?  Try a different rim and see if you get the same results.

The spare on my 1931 DB is the same way. They fit a little tight.
