Ford reverses course and decides to keep AM radio on its vehicles

The move comes after a bipartisan group of federal lawmakers introduced a bill calling on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to require AM in new vehicles at no additional cost.

The company also took it out of the 2024 gasoline-powered Mustang, but will add it back in before any of the muscle cars are delivered, Hall said.

I like the idea of car companies keeping the AM radio, but I dislike the idea of the government forcing them to do it a whole lot more.

Storm warnings, emergency road conditions, disaster information, country music...

Plus some of us LIKE listening to AM.

I don't find as much country on AM as I do oldies, which suits me fine. Like most who grew up in 60s and 70s I was...

650 WSM Nashville is still playing country and western as it has since it's start in 1925.

740 "Boomer Radio" in Toronto is playing music for "Boomers", most of us. Ha!😁

Sure, I can only hear them at night here in Virginia, but I do tune them in just to get away from the "we only play 50 songs of the genre we say we are, not the other great songs from the era" stations around here on FM.  I do not stream in the car, or pay for satellite.

I restored a 55 Chrysler New Yorker and went through the trouble of installing a "wonder bar" radio. (AM)

The first time I tried it I only got 2 stations and they weren't worth listing to!.

I never turned it on again.

Been there done that!

So does that mean that car radios are now government-mandated? Seriously?

If I were to order a new performance car, but specify "radio delete", would that be a federal offence?

No, Just a feature that would get talked about by the next generation of Barrett Jackson  auctioneers.
