1962 Buick Wildcat 2-door Hardtop

  • 1 owner
  • Driven 112,500 miles
  • Automatic transmission
  • Exterior color: Burgundy · Interior color: White

Clear Oregon title from the original owner. This was bought in 1962 off the showroom floor in Baker Oregon as a honeymoon present.

Since purchased I have gone through the car to make it a daily driver.

  • Rebuilt carb
  • went through all the fluids
  • new exhaust, new driveline
  • cleaned out the fuel tank and did some work bringing the paint back
  • 401/445 Nailhead absolutely purrs! The dynaflow trans shifts perfectly, the one finger steering is a dream

The car pictures next to the house with the cover on the back is the latest picture. I added some as found pictures as well as some of my progress. I will post more info and a video shortly This car sat in Oregon since 1984 until two years ago when I pulled it out of a pole barn. Message for more info.

This car was sold new by the Buick dealer in my hometown.  The Baker Garage has operated continuously as a Buick dealer since 1913.  I maintain contact with the son of the salesman who delivered this car new, and he followed closely the online reporting related to the recovery of this car and the work to get it back on the road.

Gosh.  I really think instead of discounting that price again if he just spent the thousand bucks on a really good detail job......

OMG that trunk lid is maddening.  My OCD cannot handle it.  If he was in NC, I'd go polish the d*mn thing for him!

Seller's Description:

1962 Buick Wildcat 2-door Hardtop

  • 1 owner
  • Driven 113,005 miles
  • Automatic transmission
  • Exterior color: Red · Interior color: White
  • Clean title
  • This vehicle has no significant damage or problems

This was a barnfind I purchased from the original owner. She bought it off the showroom floor in 1962. The car was parked in 1985 where it sat for almost 40 years. Since pulling it out, I have replaced all fluids, replaced the plugs/wires, rebuilt the carb, replaced tires, new driveline, exhaust...

  • The 401/445 Nailhead fires right up, runs really good and sounds good. Dynaflo trans shifts nice, car steers effortlessly, and drives good. Original paint shows it’s age, it’s decent shape but needs buffed and cleaned up on a few areas. Left rear quarter was repainted and the paint is cracking
  • Headliner is shot, has a small rip in the driver's seat, glovebox latch needs replaced
  • I would go through the brakes, and add new shocks

Doesn’t need much to be a nice driver. $10,500 no trades for boats or motorcycles not interested in lowball offers. Price is firm.

Same walk-around video as previous listing.

See first "photo" in Facebook ad.

Paint on trunk still looks the same.

Sorry, no...

Seller's current ad was listed approximately one week ago for $10,500 and is currently "active."

Seller's original ad was listed 42 weeks ago for $14,500. Price was periodically marked down to $11,999 and subsequently marked "SOLD" as opposed to Seller deleting it.

Apparently when this thread was updated for the current ad, I missed one of the links to the original ad. That is my mistake. Thread has been updated.

Sorry for the confusion.

6T - no reason for a sorry. You keep this part of the forum alive and interesting.  Thanks for your constant effort. You are the 'bestest'. 😊

This is a really nice car. I like the color combo a lot. Inside very tasteful as well. Does the engine sound healthy in the video? Absolutely no idea. On the wrong side of the country for me. Or I fly over, for a kind of work vacation to make it roadworthy in a few days and then go cross country to the east. That would be a trip. Daydreaming....

Like most of us, I too love the 1962 Wildcats and this one is likely set up nicely.  I am not an AC fan, except in my daily modern car, but on older cars they usually "just need a charge $$$" and so I would rather just have one with no AC, as this does.

The ad is horrible, but if the interior in white is otherwise saveable and can be cleaned up, then this car is modestly overpriced.

My issue is the one photo with the seam split on the bucket seat.  These early 60's seats in vinyl had embossing which has to be insanely difficult to duplicate.  I suppose SMS has the ability but the cost in both time and money has to be prohibitive.  That seat foam, sitting in Oregon under a cover for 40 + years has to be crunchy.

Maybe the back seat can be left alone or refoamed.  I will say this, white is AWESOME! as an interior choice both for it's uniqueness and cooling effect in a non AC car.

I also had heard that quite a few Wildcats had the vinyl roof covering and this one appears both intact and saveable, from the poor photos at least.  I normally am not a fan of vinyl tops but let's face it, that is what makes a 1962 Wildcat unique, as to my knowledge, years after 1962 saw few vinyl roofs on Wildcats, and with those 1st year Holls additions of emblems on the C Pillar, it looks good.

The body color of that dark maroon is a good choice to me.  I would repaint it, I just can't live with that tired old paint.  Chrome is probably fine, and to redo the chrome just to get it 10% better would put someone back at least $3,000 on the bumpers.

I really question the "2,000 made" common statement about 1962 Wildcats.  I have seen a lot over the years for sale, for being 62 years old now.   But I am sure they are rare.

Who's buying it!   This guy is likely a flipper.  He is stubbornly trying to exact a high return.  But still, it speaks to a slow market when he has not sold after all these months.

The biggest problem I have with this car is My Lady seems to like it which gives me permission to try to fund this beautiful machine in the Pacific Wonderland.

Oh Boy...
