Do any auto parts stores or similar carry our DRB II diagnostic readers?

     Hi all,

     Do any auto parts stores or somewhere else cary our DRB II diagnostic readers and offer free or cheap readings? The ones I've asked only carry the newer OBD units. Trying to avoid taking it to the dealership for a more expensive reading, if the dealers near me even still have theirs. Any suggestions on places you all have found that offer this?

If you are a MEMBER of the TC Owners Club, you have an other forum to come to with your questions. Just as Barney is a technical advisor for Reattas, we have technical advisors ready and willing to help with any drivability or operational problem with your TC.

Thanks guys. I appreciate those code websites, as they do give more details and recommendations than the service manual just stating what the codes are. I've been doing the "key-cycling" read for a while and mainly have been getting the same codes. I'm currently getting 12, 24, 17, 55 in that order. I have the service manual, and have been referencing it trying to get this darn thing fixed for months. My other TC has never had this problem, but this one has been running rough since I got it. The 24 is a more recent code, but I recently replaced the radiator. So, I just need to replace that thermostat here soon, as I've noticed it has ben running too cool at times. But this other problem proceeds it. It dies on me frequently at very low speeds or idle. It also pulses back and forth between about 400 RPM and 1100 RPM back and forth, like it starts to diem realizes it ad gives it gas and goes back and forth. If I put it in neutral, that often helps to prevent it from dying at idle because it will kick up the RPMs to around 1,500, until I drop it back into O/D. Sometimes, it will run gloriously with no issues, but that isn't that often, and it usually doesn't last that long. I've already replaced the IAC, TPS and the MAP Sensor. I've received a code 13 many times in the past as well, though it hasn't been showing up as of late. 12 and 24 seem to be the persistent errors that won't go away. I tried to take it to Autzone, O'Reilly and Advance Auto Parts to have them read it to make sure there wasn't something else it might tell me that the light flashing codes wouldn't and to see if I could gather any other data I could provide to my dad. He was a Mopar mechanic for years, but lives in a different state. He's looked at it a couple times, but the IAC, TPS and MAP sensor replacements (as well as a small vacuum leak to the A/C controls fix that we did) hasn't fixed this problem.

If you are looking for a useful tester to scan your TCs, all 3 engines available. The Snap-On 2500 is the best in my opinion. I have used mine since they were first sold. I have seen many on eBay and with wise shopping you can pick up one rather inexpensively. Here are a few photos of screen shots from the 2500;

I would suggest buying the 3 items in the picture plus cables as the Snap-On MT2500 does not use Bluetooth or wi-fi.  The adapter on the left is CHRY-2 MT2500-31 and the adapter on the right is CHRY-1 MT2500-30.  The higher number of the Chrysler Reference Manual is the newer version (I don't know what the most recent edition is but I know there is an Eleventh Edition).  The adapters connect to the TC and the cable, and the other end of the cable connects to the MT2500.  Needless to say, the manual instructs you how to use the MT2500.

Since Bob and I both have the MT2500 SnapOn scanner, either one of us would be glad to assist you if you find one for sale, so that you get all the attachments you need for your TC AND there are other attachments that will allow you to do diagnostics on other Makes and models beyond 1991, both foreign and domestic vehicles.

Did you clear all the codes after you did this? If so what comes back?

You don't need to worry about 12 and 55, 24 is the main one you want to figure out.

24* Throttle position sensor over 4.96V

This means the ecu is receiving to high a voltage from it. Usually a tps will work in a range below the reference voltage of 5 volts. Say 4.50(don't have the service manual to look up the actual voltage) but anything above that will throw a code.

You say you replaced those parts, but did you use OEM parts from a dealer? Yes, i know that they are much more expensive than some auto parts stores, but the quality is far superior . A new part may be bad right out of the box. has happened to me many times with aftermarket parts.  Nothing beats oem. Period.

FYI-my wife works warranty claims for a major heavy truck mfgr, and she tells me that parts from Mexico have a 50% failure rate-right out of the box from the manufacturer.  HALF of the new parts are defective!  What does that tell you????

I have one of the old OTC diagnostic computers, the OTC2000 I think, I haven't used it in a long time. They are available very cheap. The Snap On is probably better, but the OTC gets the job done.

I had one of those OTC2000 testers first, still have it someplace, but it can’t come close to the diagnosis capabilities of the Snap On tester which can really help with the component tests on the car in real time. AND the 2500 will do OBD2 as well, also A604 transaxle live and code diagnostics.
