1924-1929 CADILLAC Hubcap & Hub Bearing Wrench. #55449. Other "Large" Cars Too?

Recommended Posts

Sorry to be so vague about the years of application, but I've tried my best to research the exact years of Cadillac application, and haven't come up with anything definitive. Also, one source indicated this wrench might also be correct for other "large" cars of this vintage that used Timken axles (hub bearings).

The large hex opening for the hubcap is 2-1/2" across the flats. The smaller hex opening for the bearing hub is 1-5/8" across the flats. The wrench is 10-1/2"  long. This is a nice, original piece.

Here's what I've found out about this wrench from another source. I welcome ANY CORRECTIONS OR ADDITIONS:

This is a  1924–1929 Cadillac #55449 Hubcap Hub Timken Bearing Wrench. This is a early Cadillac tool kit hubcap & bearing wrench for the 1924 through 1929 Cadillac models. It appears this hubcap/hub wrench is definitely correct for 1926, 1927, 1928 and 1929, Cadillac's, and may also fit the V63 1924 and 1925 models as well. The wrench is for the hubcaps and the bearings for the front and rear Timken axles. The small hex end has (2) pins that is used to adjust the retainers that take up the front wheel bearing.

The wrench is embossed on one side with #55449, and a letter A in a circle. This wrench was made by the FH Hyer Manufacturing Co. that begun operation in 1904 in Chicago, Illinois.

The wrench I'm selling has the circle A on one side, and a five digit number on the other, but that number is mostly illegible. The price is $50, plus the shipping. Thanks for looking.
