Rolls Royce Phantom I Riviera Town Car

Recommended Posts

@edinmass, just a question since I'm thoroughly ignorant of cars at this level but what would be the best route for this car?  Keep as is or do the full resto?  There can't be too many in original condition.

I'll answer for Ed.  It needs 200k in clean up & mechanical sorting but needs to be cosmetically preserved as is.   A full boat restoration would be both foolish and a crime.

That’s what I was thinking, this is probably the only one left like this in original condition. I have a buddy egging me on to go to one of the Amelia Island shows, maybe next year I will take him up on it.  I’m assuming this car would be allowed?

If it was allowed at Pebble it would be allowed at Amelia.

I like town cars…….especially Springfield Rolls Town Cars. But I also have a soft spot for a few other specials…….a L-29  Murphy, or this Pierce come to mind. Taken at the same Pebble, on the same day as the photo AJ posted.

The car was recently invited to and did appear at Pebble in that condition.

It’s fantastic. Keep as is, or dump 1.5 in it to show it at Pebble.

Yes. In my first post, I show pictures of it in the truck lot at  Pebble.

Just wondering, If that unrestored Town Car has been shown at Pebble Beach does that have a negative effect on bidding? It has been on the lawn and can't return until 10 years have passed, correct?

Sometimes, if the car has been recently shown, it is a negative. I don’t believe so in this case.

That is rich.  That it was invited to and did appear at Pebble being a "negative".

It is a negative if the new owner wants the car to bring to Pebble Beach.

It’s a great car. Being born and raised in Springfield, not much better. That said, with such a small market and a recent showing at Pebble…….it will effect market market price for most of the bidders who would be gunning for it. More interesting is the number it will change hand at……..I think the estimates published on this  P1 is particularly low. Just an opinion, I’ll be on hand at the sale watching it…….I expect it will do well.

Since I know virtually nothing about Pebble, I Googled it (I know, generally not good info) and happened upon this article (Yes, Wikipedia….ugh)

Once a car is accepted to the Concours, it cannot again be entered in the event for ten years, with three exceptions; the ownership of the car has changed, the car has been restored, or if the featured marque is obscure, the Concours car selection committee can reach out to invite cars of varying restoration quality—or cars that have previously been entered in the Concours—in order to provide a healthy representation of the marque for exhibition.”

Does this mean any new owner would get the chance to show it?   Or is Wikipedia wrong yet again?

Depends…….😎

On the car, the class, the owner, upgrades, and a bunch of other items. Let’s just say, 95 percent of the people the answer will be…… ring it back in 15-20 years, maybe. Probably not.

How “obscure” of brand does it need to be for it to be asked back routinely?  1 of 5ish remaining?

Believe it or not, the 1 in 5 doesn't really qualify as being overly special.    This particular car is special because it is unrestored and there are so few cars like that anymore.

I don't know how hard it is to fill out the preservation class which is where I believe Mark showed this last time.   If it is hard, then maybe it could go back sooner.

Preservation class always has plenty of applications.

I liked that a lot from what I saw online and wondered how it looked in person. Did you get a chance to spend some time with it?  If so, what were your thoughts?

Very original and untouched. And a gentle preservation restoration where you are just cleaning and fixing What is there would make it perfect.
