Mark Huston Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 I am helping a friend pick up his grandfather’s 1940s Ford tractor. Setting in front of the tractor is this Chevrolet 6500 flatbed truck. Don’t know what year the truck is, however, my friend says it has been sitting in the back lot of the family farm business for as long as he can remember. His uncle won’t part with the truck. Several relatives have tried unsuccessfully to get the truck. I guess it will eventually return to the earth. 1
joe_padavano Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 The doors are 1951-only (the combination of vent windows with those outside door handles was one year only). Unfortunately the 6500 designation was first used in the 1952 model year. Of course, a lot can happen in 70 years.
Akstraw Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Lots of similar old workhorses still sitting out there in farm country. I looked at two that were on my father-in-law’s farm, thinking about perhaps making a hauler. Upon close inspection, my conclusion was “These trucks have been worked hard.”

School buses are well maintained and taken out of service when not too old and not many miles on them for a truck chassis.
