alsancle Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 That is cool. It is a hot rod but I wouldn't change thing.
alsfarms Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 That item is certainly the "Big Dog" on the street. Al
locoman Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 Don't think that is a Locomobile. Cool car though. I would give it garage space 1
George K Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 Don’t know but it appears to be. Looks like a transplant body or the guy sawed off the bottom of the body to get such a short door. But the way the top fits another quandary. I nicked it from justacarguy blog. Where it nicked it isn’t quoted. 1
Bob McAnlis Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 I believe it is a Marmon 48. Like 1913/14 3
alsfarms Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 Oh the story that could be told by that Speedster. Would the truss rod running under the frame rail be a factory item? If so that and running board brackets could be used to identify and verify the exact make. Al

rydersclassics Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 The truss rod and running board brackets are the same as Locomobile. Not saying others, Marmon, Pierce.... use those pieces also. Locomobile has my vote! Interesting rear axle caps. Better than a hubcap to retain an axle? Whatever the case a Hot Rod is a Hot Rod, I love it!

rydersclassics Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Does anyone know the last model year Locomobile used the drop center axle? Just wondering. We have recently finished rebuilding this for my Model 48 Speedster/Racer/Hot Rod project and will be using it regardless. I like the style. George K Posted February 18, 2023 Author Posted February 18, 2023 You can replace the thrust washer set up with hardened thrust washers sandwiched with a radial needle Torrington. Last ones I bought were from McMaster Carr. Helps some with steering force.
rydersclassics Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Thanks for the tip George! A couple of weeks ago I was given the same suggestion by another well respected car guy. For anyone interested, Bearing #NTA-2031 Thrust Washer #TRC-2031
