The roads used to be full of Chevrolets like this,

though probably not with 6 cylinders.  Today, it's

legitimately rare, since collectors have gravitated

to Impala 2-door hardtops and convertibles in the

1958 Chevrolet line.  Good find, Steve!

So if the description is true can it be assumed that 89,000 on the clock is original? I really like the originality of this car. It looks like a clean honest car!

When I was young and 58 Chevys were just used cars I thought they were terminally ugly. Since then my tastes have changed and I appreciate them much more. It does seem like this is a possible prize in waiting.

It looks like someone didn't like the original oil-bath air cleaner.  There's probably enough spark plug wire there to do two of these engines...  ;)

Around 1963-ish as a College Junior, my daily driver was my white 1958 Impala convertible, 283 w/PowerGlide, skirts & continental. I sold it a year later to get my first TR-2, and then an early TR-3.

Rallye-competition was fun in the TR,

... but Dating had been MUCH better in the Impala, both at the Jersey Shore, and in the Catskills.

Years later, @trimacar (thank you, David) helped me acquire Mrs Lewis' extreme low mileage gold over beige 1958 Bel-air sedan, 283 w/Powerglide which we used as our "modern" AACA-VMCCA tour-driver. Our son and daughter both drove the '58 Bel-air when they got their Learners Permit, and were recognized as "Youngest Driver" -

Daughter on the 1992 Bloomington, Minnesota Founders Tour (she also drove the '58 on the 1991 Lafayette Founders, but "Youngest Driver went to a 38 year old Texan because supposedly, no Louisianians should have been eligible for our own region's awards - only guests!). She also drove the VMCCA Chrome Glidden at Loveland, Colorado, but by having me drive one (1) mile so she didn't technically drive the entire tour, she allowed another member's slightly older daughter to accept the prize.

Our son drove the '58 Bel-air, and was recognized on the Nashville, Tennessee Music City Chrome Glidden Tour.

I still think these look better than the 57, although 56 is still my favorite.  Were there suspension changes in 58?  I've heard local gossip stating that the 58s rode better than previous years.

Complete new chassis in 58. 1st year of the "X" frame and all coil suspension. Softer ride for sure, but handling was not a strong point.
