Honest collector!  Turns out 67 Riviera is not a GS as sold by PJ’s in May.  Seller so honest even offered to return my inspection fee. . . .what a breath of fresh air.  Still like this highly optioned car.  Please reply with what you feel is a fair price for this one, now knowing not a GS.  Thanks to everyone who has helped me through this process!!

That is the most recent edition of collector cars price guide.

The key word is GUIDE.

I've made many purchases with this guide. That doesn't mean I haven't paid more. It means every dollar I spend above the guide is at my discretion.

What was the determining indicator it was not a GS? Did you find the axle stamp?

So hard to state a value without driving the car and knowing what has been gone through mechanically. Plus, as I said earlier the modifications done, and rear bumper being tweaked would have varied value adjustment depending on the buyer as well as the color combination may speak to some more than others. If none of that bothers you and the body is as solid rust free as it looks, doesn't need anything mechanically, A/C works, I'd put it in the $25-$27k range. Hagerty indicates 16.6k for Good condition and 31.4k for excellent. I put the car in between good and excellent. As always you need to see and drive car in person.  Seller might be honest but you may have forced them to be. Or they might just be ignorant and or lazy to accurately provide key details. Since they errored on the GS option, you have to assume there are other things not revealed.

Apparently you had the car inspected. The level knowledge of the person inspecting relative to old cars and Riviera's specifically can be subject to error. Don't assume they found every problem that might be important to you.

If I was in the market for a 67 I'd be around $20k because I'd want to return the modified areas like speaker mods and trunk back to stock as well as correct rear bumper. I only say that as an example of how what is important to you personally can affect value.

It might seem that I'm overly critical but I say this seeing so many people over the years that assumed way too much when buying a car like this then had buyers remorse.

Thanks, @JZRIV, that was a good overall appraisal of the situation.  I can't over stress how important it is to see the car in person; or at least have someone you trust do it.  As Jason says, as good as it looks in the pictures there are a few obvious things that whether you wish to address or not, still affect the value.  A test drive is particularly important because driveability issues don't show up in photographs.  If the A/C doesn't work, the brakes pull, the engine stalls at traffic lights, overheats on the highway, etc. you will want to discount the price accordingly.  All of those things can be fixed, but anything you do will cost twice what you expect...

That said, half of the excitement of owning a car like this one is 'the thrill of the hunt'.  It is a nice looking car and the 'right price' ultimately comes down to how much the car is worth to you and how much enjoyment you'll get from ownership.  Good luck with your search!

JZriv. . . First was lack of insulation retainer strap under hood.  Then demanded they verify axle stamp.  It is a highly optioned car. . .so it was easy to believe it was GS + it was sold at Carlisle auction as GS.  Without the help here I would have been lost.  Again. . . Thank you.

It's still a nice Riviera.  In '67 the only real difference was the 3.42 posi rear end.  If you're planning to drive the car these days I think you'll find the 3.07 is a nice all-around ratio.  Good around-town performance with the torquey 430 and cruises effortlessly at 65 on the highway.  Engine was the same as the non-GS and the A9 suspension was available w/o the GS option.  I'll wager that the 'non-GS' price deduction may be largely offset by the other options on-board.

Did you wind-up making a deal?

Not yet.  He’s trying to reach a settlement with PJ’s & owes me receipts. . . .then it’ll be easier- if there is such a thing - to determine a fair price.  I don’t wish to overpay and don’t expect him to give it away.  I had it inspected by 3rd party and am satisfied with what they found + his subsequent repairs

Yes. . . .4-5 weeks ago.  A few things needed attention and I’m not handy so it’s been with mechanics.  Exhaust, original manifold returned, new radiator & some tiny things.  In Las Vegas, so having windows tinted next.  It’s in very nice condition and I plan to drive it some.  Thanks for your interest and help.
