I have I beleive a 26 or 27 Buick Trans with number on case 197742-2. Would anybody know what it fits.

Just want to get rid of it. Gears look good, case has a small crack in it. Thanks

The Master Parts List book does not list casting numbers for large parts like the trans housing.  Apparently if you busted the transmission case they wanted to sell you a complete replacement.  Casting numbers are listed for smaller parts bolted to the trans.  I found numbers in the book for brake or clutch pedals and part of the universal housing to identify a 1926 Standard transmission.

The larger sub assemblies like the transmission, front axle, and rear axle were serial numbered and listed as such on the finishing report and/or build sheet.  I am not sure when Buick got away from

doing that.
