Greetings! New member here, long time vintage vehicle owner. Mostly GMC trucks from the 40's/50's but now I am the proud owner of a 1952 Pontiac

Chieftain convertible.

I am looking for how to wire up the lighted hood ornament. I have the ornament, but no wiring or hardware like the socket and bulb ect.

Hoping for someone on here that can help.

Here is a photo the car that I purchased and the light up hood ornament the previous owner included in the sale.

Thanks!

Thanks, I already have that info.

I am curious how it routes down the hood, firewall, ect  and the hardware used and the correct color braided wire.

wire is held by clips that are fasten with the nuts holding the hood trim on, then along top of firewall to round rubber grommet thru the firewall to the headlight switch, wire isn't color braided, just a single black color.

No need to get to the actual headlight switch. I you look again at the wiring diagram Charles supplied you'll see that terminal 3 of the headlight switch provides power to the 14 Amp fuse that protects taillights and dash lights. That fuse is already underhood which makes it a lot more accessible than the headlight switch itself. In fact, that's where the production splice for the wire powering the hood ornament was located.

By chance, do you know where I can find those metal clips that route the wire down the inside of the hood?

Not off hand. You could try calling CPR and see if they might carry them or maybe a boneyard? If not, it's time to be creative! Good luck.

Thanks for your help folks. I got it wired in last night. Found some vintage metal harness clips, and then tied it into the fuse group.

This is one the features that just elevates this car for me. Can't hardly keep your eyes off of it.

Now to figure out the convertible top system next.......

Phillip, now the hood ornament is lighted, no need to worry about the top 😀😀😀😀

Gather the top system is hydraulic. I used Convertible Services for the hydraulic cylinders and lines for my ‘63 Buick Skylark and found their website and prices good and their cylinders matching the OEM ones that I removed. No affiliation with this company as I am in Australia but just another satisfied customer.

There is a great video on a Corvette site explaining how to bleed them otherwise my blog on Me and My Buick (Rodney’s 1963 Buick Skylark convertible) will give details.

Looking forward to seeing more posts on this one.

Rodney 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
