vinandrew
Hi everyone, I am having a few issues with my spare 1924 Buick motor in particular removing the water pump. I have seen the instructions for the 1925 6 cylinder but it seems different process. The collar is rusted on the shaft at the starter/generator end. I have attached a picture. Any help or idea appreciated.
Leif Holmberg
The same procedur as on all 1923-1925 Buicks 4 or 6 cyl.
Mark Shaw
That coupler can be removed by first cleaning the shaft between the coupler and the pump. It can't move with crusty stuff on the shaft. Use lots of penetrating lube and gently rotate the coupler back and forth before using a drift to tap it back against the pump or use a pry bar to break it loose and slide it out of the way.
dibarlaw
I concur with Mark and Leif. Make shure you clean up the shaft toward the pump with a strip of abrasive cloth. All around. So once the coupler breaks loose it has freedom to move. I have had to use a small crowbar to lever the coupler away from the Starter Generator.
vinandrew
Thanks everyone for the replies. I have used a great deal of penetrating fluid and removed pump! I thought there might be some trick ... but no just a lot of grind! 3
