checkmate Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Suddenly I now have a hard brake pedal on my 89 16v TC. Will stop but takes a long time to do so. How to best troubleshoot and get my brakes operating again. Thanks, Jerry
mensanguy Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Yes. Stop driving it. Search "Brakes" on the upper box of this forum. Read everything that is posted. A wealth of information. 1
Barney Eaton Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 There is also a lot of brake information on the Buick Reatta forum. Teves the maker of those brakes supplied them for several car manufacturers during the late '80's also look at www.reattaowners.com site brake information there. 1 1

checkmate Posted December 2, 2022 Author Posted December 2, 2022 (edited) I've been able to locate a "complete" teves brake device. Seller claims it is in good working condition. In any event such a part is ? years old. Buy it or forget it? Thanks, Jerry. I'm still looking for a valve cover gasket. Edited December 2, 2022 by checkmate spelling (see edit history)
Hemi Dude Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Jerry, do you mean to say that you couldn’t get a valve cover gasket from Rick D? As for buying a used 30 year+ old Teves system, I would say that if you do, just take the pump off yours and install the pump from the used one.

2Shelbys Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 There are a number of things that can cause an issue with this system, especially if the fluid has not been changed regularly. That being said, a hard brake pedal is usually due to a failed accumulator.

A failed Accumulator is the beginning of the problem, but the failure of the pump is the END result, though there are electrical problems that often occur at the FUSE/RELAY Box located on the passenger side inner fender shield (as we use to call it) If you have power to the pump and it is not operating, it is likely the pump MOTOR that has failed, but if the pump motor runs and there is no brake fluid pressure, then it is the PUMP ITSELF, behind the motor that has failed. They are one assembly, MOTOR & PUMP. If there is no power to the pump motor, then look at the fuses and ESPECIALLY UNDER THE FUSES, AT THE INDIVIDUAL WIRE CONNECTORS THAT THE FUSES PLUG INTO. The one to the far left often burns up due to the pump running excessively which overheats the electrical circuit which is not designed for constant operation. This is CAUSED BY the bad Accumulator..
