1951 Belair Hardtop Coupe

Recommended Posts

I have not actually bought it yet… but have seen pictures.  It’s a mostly original car.  Still has a 235, Powerglide and 6 volt battery.  Repaint sometime in the past, but still has original interior that needs work. Some trim and spare parts in trunk.   And currently not running…. But for sale at a good price.  Please give me your impressions and advice. Thanks!

Maybe the fact that someone else bought it is a good thing.....I'll never understand how somebody that might be thousands of miles away could possibly offer an opinion of whether or not a person should or should not buy an ancient car based on a few little pictures of it on a computer screen!

I've generally found a friend, or at least a trusted contact to check out a distant car before making a purchase. The one time I trusted a well-known seller, but didn't get an independent opinion, I really got "skunked", and have learned my lesson!

Paying a qualified appraiser is generally a good option, as well.

Unless they were really giving it away,  I don't think you missed any great deal.  Badly pitted trunk emblem and handles,  tell you what shape the car was in before the repaint. Rough interior, Not running.  I have seen some pretty nice ones of these for sale for around 20,000.  You couldn't come close to making this one anywhere near that nice for the difference and I don;'t even know the asking price,  but I'm guessing it was 5 grand to 6500.  Was that blue even a factory color?   Looks like used car lot blue.
