Lincolns of 1977-1979 are popular among

Lincoln enthusiasts, and the very similar 1975-1976

versions have a lesser following.  However, there are

so many of these available that a buyer can afford

to be choosy, selecting a color he likes and finding

one with very low mileage.

Asking prices are often away out of line, but

actual prices are affordable.  For this taupe Lincoln,

$10,000 would be good, $12,000 would be pretty good.

I have an identically styled 1975:

I was surprised to learn just how big these are. At least according to an admittedly quick internet search, this thing is 17” longer than my ‘64 Continental. And that is NOT a small car. I would have to move some stuff in my garage to fit it.

I think you could do way worse than to pick this up for the suggested $12k or so. I hope someone has a lot of fun with it.

A few years ago, there was one for sale on the

internet in the exact same taupe color.  (See

picture below, which I saved.)  That one had a

matching velour cloth interior instead of leather.

I really prefer velour over leather, because it is soft,

and most importantly, doesn't show the telltale

creases with use that leather does.

I remember a commercial from that era where a jeweler cut a diamond while riding in a Lincoln.  I don't remember the model, but they were trying to sell the smooth ride.

To promote its smooth luxury ride, Mercury had a Cartier diamond cutter successfully cleave a $125,000 rough diamond in the back seat of a 1972 Mercury Marquis Brougham while driving in New York City at 35 mph.  “Mercury Marquis with a ride that’s steady...as a rock”.

It was spoofed in a version involving a moyle in the back seat.

In 10 months, the

dealer has lowered his price only $900--and so far,

the demand is still zero:

Fill the 20 gallon tank with $4 a gallon gas and then try maneuvering it into a modern parking space without calling for a pilot and it's not hard to understand why...  ;)

This is one of my favorite colors. They used to call it Burgundy Mist. Cadillac had it, and I think they used it on Oldsmobiles too. Lincolns too, obviously. I played a 50th birthday party gig one summer years ago. The host's daughter told us to put our cases in the garage. In that garage was a 60's Cadillac in Burgundy Mist. I almost fell over admiring it. It wasn't for sale.

The Fender guitar company used Burgundy Mist for only a few years as a custom order color. It's very rare today. One of my best friends has a 1965 Fender Precision bass in Burgundy Mist.

This is another color I'd bring back for cars today.

The "hot's daughter" ,  "hot daughter"  never mind me, it's a cheap attempt at humor. I know that you meant "host's daughter". I miss more than I hit. Forgive me if I offended you. Just being dumb.

Freudian slip with the misspelling of host?  Maybe not, I wasn't there!

No, just a typo. The host's daughter was attractive, but definitely not a hottie.

A year and a half after Steve first posted this Lincoln,

the dealer still has it for sale.  The current price is $14,950.

This shows that price matters!

If you click on this link and scroll down, you will see that the dealer ad is marked sold

No date listed, but the price reduction was marked 8/29/22.

Note also the ad says 536 days on the market, so something doesn't jibe.
