53 special
New to the forum. New to any forum. Bought a 53 special and I’m having trouble finding the specs for cam timing. Best I see so far is turn punch marks to the 3oclock position. Anyone that can help me is be most grateful
rocketraider
I don't know exactly how to time a Buick straight eight but that is one pretty Burick!😎 Keep scrolling down through the Forums and you will find Buickland. Plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people there who will know how to adjust your Buick's ignition system.
Xander Wildeisen
Are you talking about installing the timing chain on the cam and crank? Or are you trying to degree the cam. For more advance? Normally mark on crank gear points up, and mark on cam gear points down. Lining up the two marks with each other. Not a Buick expert. A motor manual for that year will have the information you need.
Bloo
Put them at about 3 o clock, and line up the plated washers on the timing chain to the marks on the gears. In that way you wind up with the correct number of links between the marks. Edited August 26, 2022 by Bloo (see edit history) 2
