60s GM Fan
Good morning everyone. Lately the convertible top for my 1967 Buick Wildcat has been very slow to close once I've had it down for a while. After conducting some research it appears that its possible the fluid is low within the pump. My question is 1. How and where do I check this and 2. What type of fluid do I use to top it off? rocketraider
If you have the 1967 Fisher Body Manual the procedure is in that. It recommends Type A transmission fluid to fill the system. Dexron III is the modern equivalent. Requires removing a rubber fill plug to check pump fluid level. Suggest acquiring a new one from Hydro-e-Lectric or similar vendor since, after 55 years, the original is almost guaranteed to disintegrate when you try to pry it out. It can be a messy process.
60s GM Fan
I'm thinking that its been serviced at some point because a lot of other items in the car are in excellent shape. I'm assuming I can access it under the convertible top pocket in the rear trunk (or whatever its called).
rocketraider
That's right. Top UP, then you should be able to access the pump thru the trunk by moving the top well liner out of the way. 1
