In AJ's defense I have to say my initial reaction was photo #1 may well have like the famous Gable pics where he is  "working" on his Model J.  However, subsequent shots do seem to show hard labor.

The question really, is how on earth did you get him on whitewall detail, Ed??

Whitewall detail is a step up from cleaning the chassis with a toothbrush.

Just a minor thread drift question. Was that "red" Duesenberg in the Imperial Palace Collection or Duesenberg display about 25 years ago? Every time I see photos of it I get the feeling I have seen it up close before. It wasn't among the few I knew the owners of, or any specific car show I remember clearly.  My wife and I did go through the Imperial Palace collection and Duesenberg display for an anniversary some years ago and saw a number of fine looking of A-C-D's best!

Neither of us care much for casinos or gambling. It was the only time I have been in Las Vegas and we went to see the museums! (There are actually quite a few nice small museums in that town!)

Nope….never in a museum. It’s been in private hands with only three owners in fifty years. It was BOS back in the late 70’s. We regularly drive it all over………I’m guessing it has 50k or more since it was restored. We have driven it in a dozen states and three different countries. It cruises all day long at 80 without issues. It has a tall rear gear set installed. Second gear is actually useful for driving.

Ed, Thank you for the reply! It just looks so familiar to me.  And I generally do not get that feeling from Duesenbergs.

I have seen pictures of lots of them over the years, and other than the (slow!) walk through the Duesenberg display at the Imperial Palace 25 years ago, seen about a dozen of them up close. I don't recall how many were in that display? But almost twenty cars if I recall correctly?

Perhaps some other mostly red phaeton type Duesenberg?

Enjoy Pebble!

I couldn't get enough of the Duesenburg Room at the Imperial. Only time in Vegas, that was 1992.

I’ve not been to Pebble yet. Always has been something that seemed out of reach for me. Thanks to a few people on this forum, I think it’s turning into a possibility.

DO IT! For more years than I care to count I put off going, thinking I somehow wouldn't "fit in". Nobody asks your net worth, I enjoy the jacket & tie, I'm not at a wake for an old friend, rooms, B&B's, and restaurants are all around. We drive up from LA in my daughters car so the cost of a rental for the week is unknown to me. Here we are in 2019, I'm holding the center section of #8 connecting rod I fished out of the sump of this Type 59 Bugatti after it stopped running in the 1970's. Good to see it again, but far better seeing in on the Tour. Start planning for 2023. Bob

I just never had a clue where to start going to the show. Thanks to people in the know on here I can actually plan an affordable trip. I wish I had endless money and time

Buy two tickets, get a B&B room, show up on Wednesday, watch the Tour Thursday, Laguna Seca race track practice & pit tour or a bunch of other car events Friday & Saturday ( car or other ), main event on Sunday, repeat in 365 days.

I saw that as well.

If I am remembering correctly many of the cars there were for sale.

I even think there was a sales desk just outside of the door.

Alas, in those days I was only visiting LV on business and carried my change of clothes in a brown paper bag.

In what can only be called sad, many of the signs on the cars at the museum were factually incorrect…….and off by a mile. I usually would catch one or two small errors over the years……..now it’s obvious that there is no one there with the background necessary to have basic knowledge of automobiles. They removed the library also. Overall the building and displays are better than they have been for ten years. I me the new collection manager. Nice guy, but his background is in music boxes and mechanical instruments. His tour was well done with a routine that was much more accurate than I expected……..with a few errors. It was obviously scripted by someone with great automotive knowledge. Everyone should visit this place every time they get to LA. They are still adding cars.

Ed when you say they removed the library do you mean gone for good?

Nice cars on display at the Bagel Shop Gang! thanks. Guessing the "fee" to see these cars is a bit less then the gate charge at "Pebble" 🤩 - perhaps what you spend to buy a buddy a cuppa and a bagel .

thanks! hey I even recognize a person in the next to last photo of the Hispano -Suiza - guy in the blue shirt with a rather intense look on his face. That's Steve Babinsky of NJ.

Is he the shop owner that restored the Mercedes that won Best In Show in 2017? The now black Hispano was a Ridgefield Show regular when a Mailman from Long Island owned it, tan and maroon back then.

Yes, Steve's shop is in western NJ. and he restored the M-B . I saw it being restored in progress by his very talented body man Mike.

And yes, the Hispano Suiza when on long island was owned by a guy named Joe Weider of Bellerose, Queens. Joe also had a Locomobile sedan, and you could here him arrive in the H-S a quarter mile away as he ground through the gears! Crunch. Joe was so proud of the H-S as when the movie "Annie" was filmed and they had a parade in NY City for Thanksgiving, the dog from Annie was the guest of honor in the back seat of that car in the parade.

Why do I remember al of this stuff?
