Oregon Desert model 45 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 This photo shows how you change the tire. The wheel stays on the car and the demountable rim is removed. First jack up the axle, then remove the 6 nuts and wedges holding the rim to the wheel. Rear axle has a jack point behind the fitting where the spring is attached to the axle housing. Let some air out of the tire, and the rim can be removed with some difficulty when pulled by the side opposite the air valve stem. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Hubert_25-25 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 A 1927-27 has a demountable rim. Remove the 6 perimeter nuts and 6 wheel wedges, and you can pull the wheel rim with the tire off the car. No puller is needed. Oregon Desert posted how to change the tire. Note that the wheel bolts are not strong, so do not overtighten. Inspect the threads. They are fine thread. Make sure no one has put coarse thread nuts on the bolts. Being a Standard, Buick used a "3/4 floating axle" design. It differs from the full floating design used on the Masters. If you want to remove the wheel itself - which includes the brake drum, you will likely need a puller. The reason I am including these next 4 pages of notes is that if you do remove the rear hub, you have to know how to assemble it correctly onto the tapered axle shaft. This is the Wheel hub repair for a 1925 Buick. 1927 axle shafts are a little stronger, and the hub is a little larger, so verify dimensions for a split collar if that is how you are going to remove the hub from the axle.
