Shop Damaged My Seville

Back in mid May I dropped off my Seville for smog repairs (yes I have to smog it). They had the car for five weeks then magically called me to tell me that they couldn’t fix it! Bear in mind they smogged it and have repaired my other cars. Oddly they didn’t charge me. They were also very rude. Turned out the guy I dealt with retired in May.

I found another shop and had it transported there I went by to check on this and saw this! The current shop is going to check their cameras but I highly doubt they did it.

The side from the passenger rear through the rear fender is dented and damaged. The bumper and fillers are damaged. The Seville is original and only has 38k on it.

good thing I took a photo when I dropped it off!

OMG, Yikes, hate to see this, and that is a great looking car!

I had my trans am in the shop when they were installing the motor. After it was finished they told me 'by the way we dented you front fender on the lift but took it to the local shop and had it repaired'. Like you Im sure, I was a bit upset although my car is far from original. Made me mad because not all blacks are the same. Probably not too many could tell but in the right light I can see a difference. I would have gladly told them what paint I used.

Same shop, different car. I was in there one day picking up my daily from an oil change. Beautiful 68 firebird, original condition, and another customer backed into the side and tore it up. Kinda like the damage to your car. I would be sick!

Hope this works out for you.

Many years ago,I parked my pristine '68 Caprice in the city parking garage. After work,I went to get it to go home and there it sit on the street with the driver's door wrapped around into the front fender. The attendant was backing into the street with the door open and a car came by and hit the door.Needless to say,I was highly pissed. The city paid to have it fixed.Whoever fixed it did an excellent job,but had to paint the entire car.

My advice, is ... & only if you can be 100% sure as to who damaged it...

(1) Talk to the current owner of the shop that damaged it, in person...

(2) Ask for a fair cash settlement..

(3) Turn the whole thing into your insurance company, either way...

(4) But if that paint is the (like new) factory paint, especially on the whole car, I would not repair it.  I'd take the cash as fair compensation ... Stuff happens... As long as you have a fair cash settlement, to compensate your ACV loss, to repair it, then just take it.   And let the car be.

(5) If the paint is not factory paint, then have the car fixed, if you wish ...

(6) If you cannot be absolutely sure, as to who damaged the car, then just deal only with your insurance company.

(7) Also, on an original paint, ('77?) Seville, that runs good & actually has all original paint, I really don't think the actual value of that car was hurt that much...

Once the dust settles I'd talk to a paintless dent repair guy.  I'll bet a good one could get most, if not all of the dents out.  Then you can clean-up the paint and brush-touch anywhere that the paint was chipped.  Partial repaint on that original finish is a non-starter...

It doesn't matter what the value of the car is, it's your car. They should have contacted you about the damage and discussed how to remedy the situation. You should not have to investigate the matter yourself. Last year I bought a fairly expensive (30K) late model used car that had really low mileage. A few days after purchase the Ford dealer sent the car out for detailing a second time as the car was not properly cleaned inside. When I picked it up it was obvious that another vehicle had backed into the front end causing minor but noticeable damage to the paint on the front bumper. Good thing that I noticed it before I left the lot, as they hadn't told me about it. This was during the worst days of the pandemic and we needed that car, or I would have returned it under the satisfaction guarantee. They finally agreed to take care of the damage that they claim occurred at their detailing contractor's shop. Yeah I know that things happen, but it's how the shop handles the situation that makes all the difference.
