rgshafto
Just heard an economist claim the other day that a gallon of gas at $1.65 is equivalent ? when adjusted for inflation ? to the price of a gallon gas in 1950.
Guest
rgshafto ~ Those numbers seem to me to be pretty much on the money. In 1949 I bought a Chevrolet DeLuxe Sport Coupe for $1881 and that included radio & heater. With gas at about 25 cents a gallon then, and using that as the basis, the Chevy should cost about $12,500 today.Of course the economist is right, but no one wants to hear the facts when their minds are already made up. They would rather gripe and complain. And NO, I am not and never have been in the oil business. I just don't blindly follow the hype of the moment.hvs
Guest Skyking
Hmmm, Evian water, $1.49 for 9oz........Did you know that Evian spelled backwards is naive......? Just a thought!
Guest leadfoot
The real gas pain is what you get after filling your gasoline tank when you go into the convenience mart and buy and consume all that junk food. Gasoline is a relative bargain and the food, well . . . .?
Guest
and then, if we try to equate the cost of the 16 gallons of nitro-methane my t/f dragster drinks in 1/4 of a mile. might be cheaper to feed the kids lobster every day!!! tomchaney
Howard is probably right. I bought a '65 Corvette in 1970 for $1500 and filled it with gas for $5. Figure what a 5 year old Corvette convertible with 30K miles would cost today and there's your multiplier.
