40ZephSedan
While working under the car, I am always curious what the purpose was for the unused plugged port halfway up the side of the oil pan. I am not positive this is a 1940 pan, but I think it is. Maybe the port was used during previous model years? Anyone know the purpose? Colin Spong
On early V12 engines (1936-38?) the oil filter return pipe was in the side of the oil pan. From late 1938 onwards the oil return was via one of the threaded openings on the rear on the engine bell housing.
40ZephSedan
Manual shows that 39 and 40 pans both call out the same P/N, and 38 had its own pan P/N, so that makes sense, thx!
