Delco shocks on Packard.

My Packard Clipper has the Delco "knee action?" shock absorbers on the front suspension. I would like to know what type of oil is suitable for refilling the reservoirs. I presume that the 7/16" screw on the top is the fill plug. Both shocks are low on oil if the oil should be visible at this opening and on mine oil is not visible so I am assuming that they need topping up. Am I right? They seem to function well but the car has not been driven in 10 years and I suspect oil has leaked out. Is the Delco oil still available or would hydraulic of motorcycle fork oil etc. work as well?

I would suggest simply going to your local NAPA store and getting some 10w hydraulic jack oil. It's nothing more than a mineral oil, and will work perfectly. and yes, you are right, the plugs at the top are for filling I would fill then to about 1/4" fron the top to allow for expansion and cavitation. Enjoy your smoother ride!

One other thing you might try is using motorcycle fork oil, as some contain seal swell to slow down leaks as well as anti foaming agents.
