Well the seller may have the wrong battery or it's installed backwards. To make it work he bought generic cables from an auto part store and bingo it starts; well I think.... The old phrase it's only as strong as its weakest link applies here. The battery terminals and cables look clean. Then you look at the positive connection on the fender and it is all rusty/corroded and that probably speaks for most of the electrical connections on the car. Unfortunately some think the fix is a 12 volt conversion but if you take the time to clean the connections a 12 volt conversion would not be necessary.
