Ralph White
Anyone seen photos of this hanging at a dealership?
5219
Take a look at the Buick part of this forum under the Photos of dealerships. There is an early 50's shot of two of these signs above a Buick dealer's used car lot.

60FlatTop
Some Buick dealers retired that stuff to their home garage, and the front row of the lot too!

Newest used car is a 1953 Olds. I'll say that dates the picture to 1954-55 era. Why can't dealerships look like that today? This "corporate identity" garbage of the last 30 years is tiresome. Bad enough all cars look the same. Homogenization is only a good thing in foodstuffs IMNSHO.
60FlatTop
Twenty years ago there was a big corporate push to hang a big GM sign on those dealerships and tell the customer to pick the brand. I think it happened at some places in Canada, not so much the US. The Earth seems to be suffering from an outbreak of cultural pox on its surface. It shows up a lot in cultural bubbles. A few bubbles from the pox have popped and been replaced with a rash of tribalism. The Buick tribe has held up well.
