Now I know... http://www.stanleymotorcarriage.com/Parts/Winker.htm Gary, that was an enjoyable rabbit hole to fall into. An interesting and effective solution to a critical problem. It reminds me of how progress has taken some of the satisfaction and joy of accomplishment out of simple things like feeding and monitoring oil to a piece of machinery - the element of human interaction. For instance I have counted and adjusted the drips per minute in a hydrostatic lubricator while firing a steam locomotive and carefully adjusted the drip feed to an antique engine - to name a few. The challenge being to provide enough lubrication for the speed and conditions but not more than is needed - all far more satisfying than helplessly watching, isolated and remote, the needle on a modern oil pressure gauge.
