handmedownreatta Posted May 20, 2022 Share Posted May 20, 2022 the new battery chargers are inadequate for classic [any] cars.since they are redesigned for safety they will not charge any battery less than two volts.if you hook them to a dead battery they do nothing.not even spark.they will NOT charge your dead battery.good for me i have conventional [old]chargers still. padgett Posted May 21, 2022 Share Posted May 21, 2022 Yes and some have an "override" to charge anyway. I also have an old dumb charger that can put enough of a surface charge on in about 10 minutes. If buying look for text like "Or use the all-new force mode that allows you to take control and manually begin charging dead batteries down to zero volts. ".
