1955 Buick Special Fuel line routing

Good morning,

I'm new to the group. I have put an introduction post on general buick forum. I need some help from the knowledgeable people in this group. I have took on the challenge of replacing the fuel line on my 55. I ordered pre-bent steel line from inline tube which I can't say I'm too impressed by the fitment. Anyways, the problem I'm currently running into is getting the new line to run through the front crossmember down the enclosed frame and getting it to pop out on the outside of the frame behind the inner front fender. I am getting jammed up on the spacer/plate inside the frame rails that is used to mount the steering box. I've been fighting with this for 2 plus days so I'm beyond frustrated.

I guess what I want to know is:

1.) does the line run under or beside the space/plate? Any line I put in (new or old) wants to go beside the plate but this is where it get jammed up.

2.) Is there another way to route the line beside this route? This would be the last resort.

3.) Would rubber hose be a better option? It would be more flexible but somewhat worried about rubbing.

The procedure you are referring to is a very difficult procedure.  I recently did this on my 56 Super and I can tell you, it can be done but, it takes a lot of patience.  Admittedly, I had to bend my line a little to stop it from catching on the lip of the hole where it is supposed to exit the front crossmember.  It sounds like you're coming in from the front.  The only way I got it to work was to come in from the back.  I would not recommend a rubber hose since it can rub on the metal parts and over time wear a hole in the rubber.
